WHAT IS THE FILM ABOUT?
84-year-old DJ Vika is a star of Warsaw nightclubs. This charismatic and bright woman, whose energy is the envy of the youth, refuses to age. Vika used to be a teacher specializing in working with children with disabilities. Before retirement, she worked as a director of a youth detention center, and after that, she started a DJ career and now inspires other elderly people to celebrate life in all its manifestations.
WHY IS IT A MUST-SEE?
"In Poland, old age is grey and sad, and the heroine of my film shines like a colourful bird," says the film's director, Agnieszka Zwiefka. DJ Vika started mixing tracks in retirement and now she has been behind the controller for 25 years. This is an inspiring story about how it's never too late to rediscover yourself because age is not a verdict, it's just a number.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Agnieszka Zwiefka is known to the audience thanks to her films: SCARS (2020) about women fighting the ranks of the Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka and QUEEN OF SILENCE (2014) about a Roma deaf girl who escapes into the world of Bollywood fantasy. It was in QUEEN OF SILENCE that we saw a combination of a documentary and a musical for the first time. This original film language became the basis for creating the story about DJ Vika.
