Про що фільм
Тимек успішний піаніст, який приїздить з Варшави до рідного містечка на літні канікули, де, здається, час зупинився. Його молодший брат Яцек теж талановитий піаніст, але замість планувати майбутнє, він убиває час, тиняючись із друзями. Тимек вливається в компанію давніх приятелів, але швидко розуміє, що провінційна рутина йому чужа. У вирі випивки, легких наркотиків, ганебних гомофобних жартів та насмішок на мігрантами він – мовчазний спостерігач, якому бракує сміливості розірвати коло насильства, яке от-от вибухне.
Навіщо дивитись
«Хліб і сіль» – це історія про інакшість та почуття ізольованості у спільності, до якої ти належиш і не належиш одночасно. Це про страх бути у меншості серед агресивної більшості й про вибір пасивного споглядання, що призводить до жахливих наслідків. Головні ролі у фільмі виконали непрофесійні актори, а сюжет натхнений реальною історією, через що стрічка нагадує документальне підглядання за життям героїв. Дебютний фільм режисера Даміана Коцура критики часто порівнюють із роботами Гаса Ван Сента та Міхаеля Ганеке.
Про режисера
Даміан Коцур – молодий польський режисер, який прикував до себе увагу блискучими короткометражними роботами, що вирізняються грубим стилем та радикальністю. Після успішного повнометражного дебюту у Венеції, він показав ще один короткий метр у Каннах (знятий спільно з українською режисеркою Анастасією Солоневич) та вже працює над другим фільмом.

WHAT IS THE FILM ABOUT?
Tymek is a successful pianist who comes from Warsaw to his hometown for summer vacation, where time has stopped, seemingly. His younger brother Jacek is also a talented pianist, but instead of planning for the future, he kills time goofing off with his friends. Tymek joins the group of old friends but quickly realises that the provincial routine is foreign to him. In a vortex of booze, soft drugs, shameful homophobic jokes and mockery of migrants, he is a silent observer who lacks the courage to break the cycle of violence that is about to explode.
Why is it a must-see?
“Bread and Salt” is a story about otherness and the feeling of isolation in a community to which you belong and do not belong simultaneously. It is about the fear of being in the minority amid an aggressive majority and about the choice of passive contemplation, which leads to dire consequences. Non-professional actors perform the main roles in the film, and the plot is inspired by a real story, which gives the film a documentary-like feeling – as if we are spying on the characters’ lives. The debut film of the director, Damian Kocur, is often compared by critics to the works of Gus Van Sant and Michael Haneke.
About the director
Damian Kocur is an emerging Polish director who drew attention with his brilliant short films, distinguished by their rough style and radicalism. After a successful full-length debut at the Venice Film Festival, he showed another short at Cannes (made in collaboration with the Ukrainian director Anastasia Solonevych) and is already working on his second feature film.

The international short film festival Żubroffka (Białystok, Poland) created the program. For 17 years of existence, Żubroffka has become a meeting place for the unbridled creative energy of creators worldwide.

A medical examination reveals that his eyes are so dense that it takes seven years for the light to reach the retina and hence for the image to reach his consciousness. The man is never mature enough for his age and constantly lingers on the past.
